Rosenhof is an exceptional haven. Not only for the Barrow Family who established this renowned Klein Karoo retreat but also for every guest who arrives as a stranger and departs as a friend.
A shelter from the bustle of everyday life
Rosenhof Country House is situated in Oudtshoorn, en route to the Cango Caves, the Ostrich Farm, and the Swartberg Pass. The carefully renovated homestead (Circa 1852), with its yellowwood beams and ceilings and an elegant collection of antique furniture, exudes an aura of authenticity.
The lovely rose garden, which gave Rosenhof its name, leads to stylishly decorated bedrooms, each individually furnished. All rooms provide air-conditioning, underfloor heating, Wi-Fi, satellite television (DSTV), telephone, Minibar, digital safe, and tea and coffee facilities.
The two Executive Suites, each with their own pool, lounge, and patio, have tranquil Swartberg Mountain views. Rosenhof has a cosy pub and several luxury lounges with fireplaces where visitors can relax and admire works from well-known South African artists. In summer, guests can cool down in the pool or have tea in the manicured gardens. The Wellness Centre offers a fully equipped Gym, Sauna, and Spa.
With its luxurious facilities and excellent service, Rosenhof is well-known for being one of the finest establishments in the region. It is graded as a TGCSA 5-Star Country House.
Rosenhof Country House opened its doors on the 7th of December 1992. The initial rate of R145 pp included dinner, bed, and breakfast. The homestead was built in 1852, and the property was a working farm.
The homestead and old wagon house (waenhuis) were carefully renovated to protect the heritage of these beautiful structures. Thick walls with yellowwood beams and ceilings compliment the house as one enters.
Rosenhof is privately owned and run by Nic and Ferda Barrow. Ferda is an educator passionate about gardening, cuisine, and extreme detail in interior design, while Nic is an attorney and entrepreneur.
Ferda's love for roses was instrumental in the name-giving of Rosenhof (Rose Quarter). The magnificent garden now features more than 20 rose varieties, with the English Rose-Sharifa being her favorite. The garden also boasts several trees, including pomegranate, lemon, quince, fig, olive, and pear - some grown since 1852.
Nic's passion for vintage wines led to their very own wine estate, LE LUDE, situated in the picturesque Franschhoek Valley. The Rosenhof cellar stocks Nic's favorites.
As a team, they had a dream of starting a national festival in Oudtshoorn. Late-night discussions with various actors and celebrities residing at Rosenhof led to the KKNK (Klein Karoo National Arts Festival). They also initiated the Klein Karoo Klassique (Classic) festival for fine arts, chamber, and classical music.
